Google’s New Local Search Functions Are Lastly Here

Google is finally rolling out the regional search functions previewed earlier this year, including the capability to browse your surroundings with your phone’s video camera.

At Google’s Search On virtual conference in September, the company had people buzzing over its innovative updates to regional search.

Google previewed an option to look for restaurants by meal and a new search ability developed into Google Maps’ Live View.

Those updates and more are now available. Here’s an overview of the local search updates launching today.

Beginning next week, search with Google Maps Live View is presenting in London, Los Angeles, New York City, Paris, San Francisco, and Tokyo on Android and iOS.

There are two new ways to find restaurants in your local area.

Look for restaurants that serve a specific meal by either typing it in by hand or conducting a visual search with Google Lens.
